Sexual Health – Aids/HIV Testing in Bangkok

| July 6, 2011 | 43 Comments | 38,527 views

Most men prefer sex without a condom.

The problem with unprotected sex in The Thailand Girl Scene is sexually transmitted diseases and and unwanted pregnancy. Certain classes of Thai women are notorious for having multiple secret partners and, practically speaking, there is no way of verifying Thai girls’ sexual histories. Both these problems need to be addressed and BigBabyKenny.com is here to tell you how to do it cheaper, faster, and more efficiently.

A solution to the STD problem is testing and the cheapest, fastest, and most convenient place for comprehensive STD testing is the Red Cross Anonymous Clinic. The clinic is supported by charitable contributions and offers free/heavily subsidized and fast AIDS and STD testing.

When you arrive at the clinic, the first step is to fill out a form at this counter.

No ID is required. everything is anonymous, and you indicate whether you want just AIDS/HIV testing or a full STD panel.

The form has a place to indicate nationality and income. If you tell the truth and say you are a foreigner and have an income over 50,000 THB per month the testing costs 200 THB. If you are Thai or claim low income, the testing is free.

You are given a number and wait upstairs on the balcony to see a counselor.

When number is called, you go into one of these rooms and talk to a counselor.

She asks some mindless questions such as “are you a sex worker”, “when was the last time you had unprotected sex”, and “did your condom break last time you fucked.”

The counselor whom my friend saw was a wizened gnome like old lady bearing a sharp resemblance to Yoda from the Star War’s movies.

I had the strong urge to see if I could get a reaction out of here with outrageous answers like “Yes I am a sex worker and I had unprotected sex with a buffalo last night and the condom broke” but I just shut up and let her go through her routine.

She signs your form and you move onto blood collection.

You wait outside this room until your number is called.

Inside an orderly takes a vial of blood for testing.

You are given a bar coded tag and you can either wait for the results or come back the next day.

The AIDS/HIV testing results are available in as little as 15 minutes and, at most, an hour. Most people wait but you are given a bar coded card and can come back the next day for the results.

The full STD panel takes 24 hours.

The clinic is located on the corner of Rajdamri and Sarasin Rd, next to Chualongkorn University, and is just south of the Rajdamri MTS station.

“Most men prefer sex without a condom”. I’d go further and say with 100 percent certainty that ALL men prefer sex without a condom BUT it doesn’t mean that most men actually go ahead, take the risk and have unprotected sex with prostitutes.

Going by the polls in Pattaya forums the vast majority of men do use protection (at least most of the time) when engaging in casual sex.

If a guy is unlucky enough to catch Gonorrhea / Syphilis / Chlamydia etc, he will know within couple of days that something is drastically wrong and its time to seek urgent medical intervention (trust me..)

HIV / AIDS might not show for up to 6 months after infection.

What I’m trying to say is that there’s no real reason / need for a casual sex tourist to go and have himself tested for STD while on holiday for few weeks in a foreign country just for the fun of it or because it’s cheap.

Good idea and responsible is to have it done 6 months after returning home.

  2. BBK says:

    Ronru,

When you have a new Thai girlfriend, you take HER for STD testing to protect yourself.

Of course, this doesn’t work for casual sex where you only mess around a couple of times because you don’t see the girl more than once or twice.

I am talking about situations where you have a long term relationship and want to make sure everything is OK.

That’s where you can drop into the Red Cross Clinic, find out whether she has AIDS within an hour and whether she has any other STD’s within 24 hours.

If you have been out of the country for awhile and you are not sure what your Thai girl has been doing you can also spin by the Red Cross Clinic and get a green light within an hour. Not sure how you are going to spin this to the girl, but that is the subject for a different post.

If it makes her feel better, you can get an AIDS test at the same time to reassure the girl that you are safe for her.

    BKK,

The fallacy of your premise is that to determine if your girl friend has AIDS you’re going to have to test her today and in 3 or 6 months or something as AIDS don’t always show up right away.

Further,  who knows who else your girlfriend is fucking whilst she is not with you?  Maybe most of us are foreigners on this forum, and we’ve probably all read other forums, so we all know that if a girl would have sex with a foreigner she would have sex with more than one foreigner.  So taking a girl to get tested at this place although noble in thought is really just the actions of a disillusioned thought process.

The best course of action is to assume all women have AIDS, whether a nice college girl or a service worker.  By doing this testing if it comes back negative it will cause you to think that this is the one girl that doesn’t have AIDS and possibly cause you to not use necessary caution.  You should never do this no matter what.

The testing is fine as it can find things that can be cleaned up, or not.  But, it should not be used as a green light for unprotected sex.

Good luck, and its nice to know that you have a girl friend.

    Your pal,

    Good point Dudwell,
I take my Thai wife of 20 years to be tested for AIDS every 6 months to protect myself.
It’s thoughtful little things like that which shows her how much I love and trust her.
    Hahahahahahahaha!

Please be responsible and tell the truth on the questions about sexual activity, orientation, frequency, condom use, etc.  The information collected is for research purposes. Why throw a monkey wrench into the research when there’s no reason to. It’s anonymous.

  10. TTO says:

    Young Penfold,
don’t forget that you can also get HIV by having sex with a male, ladyboy or not. This is true whether it’s anal sex or sex involving a surgically created vagina. Oral sex is much less risky, regardless of the gender of your partner.
In one study, an average of 13.5% of transgender women  (whom you call ladyboys) were found to be HIV positive.  Google “HIV Prevalence, Risk Behavior, Hormone Use and Surgical History Among Transgender Persons in Thailand” for the abstract if you suspect my words. In comparison, 1.3% of the
adult population and 1.7% of indirect female sex workers were estimated to have HIV. Conclusively, having unprotected sex with “ladyboys” is not safer than doing the same with those who’ve been women from birth.
You’d be better off with a pack of condoms and a tube of KY in your pocket.

  11. Robert says:

Why worry about it?  You’re more likely to get run over by a bus or die on a motorcycle in Thailand (or anywhere else) than catch aids through heterosexual sex.   According to the U.S. Center for Disease Control, (on their website) and quoted by Wikipedia in their article on HIV,  for every 10,000 sexual encounters involving vaginal intercourse  even with a HIV positive woman, 5 will result in infection.  Carry that one step father,  if 5% of Thai prostitutes (1 in 20)  are HIV positive, you would need to have sex 400,000 times before you were statistically likely to get infected.
Don’t believe me, check the CDC website, and do the math.

  12. Robert says:

I checked my own math, that should be 40,000 times.

Woe – you really are a moron. Perhaps they ask those questions as sex workers are more likely to get HIV or for statistical reasons? PS – you write like a 15 year old.

  26. Anonymous2 says:

In Thailand HIV (E) is almost all men with women not like HIV (B) (US, UK) which is mostly men with men or needles. Wrap up, be careful. The Math mentioned above is not accurate and HIV E is more contagious then B and more common in Southeast Asia.

  28. Elanseteven says:

circumcision is absolutely the WRONG way to prnveet HIV/AIDS.There was a study largely ignored by the media and the people promoting this practice, and this study showed that men who HAD HIV already were MORE LIKELY to transmit the virus to women IF they were circumcised, compared with men who were not circumcised. This is an incredibly important fact, especially considering that without condoms and better education, men WILL get HIV and continue sleeping around.circumcision = DANGEROUS.

  29. Blicks says:

What about straight men? Are we smoehow immune to aids? Does the disease discriminate based on gender or sexual orientation? Of course not. Not raising awareness for ALL groups of people who are sexually active is the problem. Why can’t we just have a day or week or month for awareness where we educate EVERYONE about the disease and how they can protect themselves? We have days for blacks, latinos, women, gay men, caribbean americans, asian and pacific islanders, but none for men in general.
